Happy New Year!

Happy Chinese New Year! It’s the year of the pig. Actually, it’s the year of the Golden Pig which I guess only comes around every 600 years and is supposed to guarantee luck, good health, and prosperity. As a result, I heard on NPR that the Chinese health system is planning on being overwhelmed with the number of people who will try to have kids this year. Great, just what we need, more Chinese people!Â

Finally, a real video!
By jason, February 16, 2007 on 11:32 am | In alissa, pregnancy, video | 1 CommentEric helped me pull together a quick edit of Alissa’s first day video! I think it looks great! I have to get a mac… iMovie seems to work really well. More on that later. In the meantime, enjoy the video. (Can’t believe it’s only been 2 months…)

Alissa’s fuzzy ears (and head)

I wonder how many other parents out there are as prolific in their blogging/documenting of their newborn as we are. The problem is, I’m going to have to be exactly as prolific for the next kid or he’s going to feel ripped off. (Don’t get excited grandparents… it’s not going to be anytime soon.)
Caution, partial nudity

This is one of those pictures that is going to haunt Alissa for the rest of her life. Maybe I can use it as a bargaining chip for some important negotiation in her teens.

A few things have changed in the last couple days. First, she actually smiles now… like once a day. I think it’s gas. Still, I have to admit, even though I’ve seen it only once, it may be the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Can’t wait to capture it on camera. Second, she wants to spend time on her own, not being held. Apparently, she wants her independence and wants to lie down to absorb her environment and flail her hands and arms about. Here’s a video to illustrate:

Alissa’s bear hat, Abigail in studio
By jason, February 13, 2007 on 12:33 am | In alissa, commentary, family | No Comments
Click on the image to the left to see a series of pictures with Alissa in her bear hat. The hat is actually a bit on the small side already. Just a few weeks ago, her tiny head was swimming in it!
She changes so fast. Every day, I tell Bonnie that she looks different. It’s subtle, but very real. It actually makes me a little sad how quickly time is passing by. At the same time, I’m really looking forward to seeing her personality grow and interacting with her more.
I got a small glimpse into that future yesterday when Abigail came to visit with Deeann and Calvin. She’s so curious and crawls so fast! We tried doing some pictures in the makeshift studio, but I think most of them were blurry because she was just a bundle of movement. Here’a one of the images. Click on the image for a larger sampling.
Ghetto Apple Pie, part deux
By jason, February 13, 2007 on 12:01 am | In alissa, food | 1 Comment
Our ghetto-ness has reached new levels. Bonnie wanted to make the original ghetto apple pie… except we had no apples. So she made it with pears. So now, our ghetto apple pie, part deux, is actually ghetto pear pie. It actually tasted almost exactly like the apple pie. Probably because of all the cinnamon.
Anyway, here’s another short video from this past weekend:

I still haven’t gotten any of the HD video processed yet but here’s some low quality stuff from my little point and shoot Canon S400.
