Tommy and Phyllis wedding festivities (day 2)
By jason, September 10, 2007 on 12:18 am | In family | No Comments

Tommy and Phyllis had a Chinese banquet dinner tonight which we took as another opportunity to dress Alissa up in clothes that she will likely only wear once. As such, we put her in the outfit above, hat and all. This is from one of my mom’s coworkers so hopefully she sees this post. =)
Anyway, I didn’t take too many pictures tonight as Alissa kept us pretty busy, but I did manage a few.
Here’s Megan mid-dinner:

And Tommy and Phyllis toasting tables:

And finally, a shot of Benita and Alissa:

Well, now it’s Sunday night and I’m pretty pooped having schlepped Alissa and all her accouterments around the whole weekend. I can’t imagine how tired Tommy and Phyllis are from playing host for the better part of the entire week! Regardless, congrats to the happy couple and as Phyllis’ dad put it, Chopsticks!
Tommy and Phyllis get married

Tommy and Phyllis tied the knot yesterday at Thomas Fogarty winery up in the hills of Woodside. It was a pretty perfect wedding as you might expect out of this particular couple. Weather was great, food was fantastic (especially the appetizers), speaches were funny, slide show was hilarious, ceremony was personal, and of course, Vanilla Ice was in the Howzzzz!

Also, we got a rare glimpse into the soft insides that all of us men possess but rarely show:

And finally, the cake looked and tasted fantastic!

All in all, one of the best planned and executed weddings I’ve been to as either a guest or a photographer.
[Speaking of which (sorry for the boring tangent) the photographer, Bruce, had two Canon 5D's, one with a 28mm and one with a 85mm. That's it. I asked him if he ever missed the flexibility of zooms, but he started out with Hasselblads prior to going digital so he's used to using prime lenses. Also, the speed advantage of primes was a big plus to him. Interesting... I've considered going to the prime-only route myself but haven't had the guts to actually try it yet. There's also the likelihood that I'm not nearly as talented than he which could mean poor results for my paying clients. Maybe I'll do some experimenting at home.]
Anyway, here are some more pictures plus the link to the entire album.

Alissa crawling, crying, and drinking her sorrows away
By jason, September 8, 2007 on 1:48 am | In alissa | 1 CommentThis weekend, we have two days of wedding festivities to attend so be ready for some picture overload. To get you warmed up, here are some snaps from the last week or so.

Drinking her sorrows away (before you send me any hate mail, she didn’t actually have any beer):

Benita’s Birthday BBQ
By jason, September 8, 2007 on 1:40 am | In family, food | No CommentsWe hosted a BBQ for Benita today with steaks, hot links, chicken, and… dim sum. Can’t have a real BBQ without some good pork buns. Come to think of it, I have yet to get around to trying a slow cook on some pork butt. Anyway, here are a few pictures from the day:

Alissa thinks peaches are sour!
By jason, September 2, 2007 on 9:29 pm | In alissa, food | No CommentsBonnie has been making some baby food for Alissa recently. Just pureed fruits and veggies. Today, we tried giving her some normal yellow peaches. (She’s had white peaches already and liked them.) The video result is below. First, she shudders like we shocked her. I think she’s not used to the tartness. Then she acts like we’re trying to poison her, gagging and making scrunched up faces. We thought it was pretty funny actually so we’ll probably try it again since there’s quite a bit left.

Alissa’s first time at the beach
By jason, September 2, 2007 on 7:58 pm | In alissa | No CommentsWe went to Ocean beach today since the weather was so nice. I didn’t think Alissa was going to be a huge fan of the water based on her reaction to the pool a few weeks back but I thought she might like the sand. Well, as it turns out, the only thing she really likes is the wind in her face. She was kinda so-so about the warm sand near the steps. And she was really not happy with the cold wet sand near the water. I’m not sure if it’s the cold or the loud roar of the waves. After a while, she didn’t really mind it that much, however, much like the pool, I felt like she just tolerated it. I think we’re going to have to get her in some swim lessons sooner rather than later so she doesn’t develop a phobia. Anyway, here are some pictures from the trip.

I got a new (used) bike!
By jason, September 2, 2007 on 7:11 pm | In health | No Comments
I’ve been riding my bike to BART to go to work lately in order to get some exercise, save some money on parking, and do my part to save the world. (These bike lockers work great by the way.) But my mountain bike is kind of a pain. It’s heavy so it’s hard to carry up and down the stairs. Plus, since I’m going to work and don’t want to be stinky and sweaty, it’s inherent inefficiency means I have to pedal pretty slowly (has nothing to do with how out of shape I am). Finally, it’s always been kinda dirty (it is a “mountain” bike after all) so I always end up messing up either my pants or my hands or something.
So, what to do? Well, as it turns out, this problem like so many problems is easily solved by spending money. So I spent $650 on this used bike I found on Craigslist.

It’s an older Lemond Zurich, a traditional steel frame bike, with some nice Shimano Dura Ace components. It has some other nominal upgrades as well. I think the frame is from 1999 (EDIT: It’s from 1997) and the components are probably from the same era although I’ve had a hard time confirming this via web search. I took it on it’s inaugural ride with Dennis this morning. So far so good although I’ll probably bring it to the bike shop for a tune up.
(And yes, the studio backdrop and lights are still up.)
